Porch Parties 2009
The popular MAK porch parties were held again this year. Neighbors offer their front or back porches for a casual neighborhood get-together once a month from May through October. 4th of July Block Party
Approximately 80 – 100 neighbors turned out for our extravaganza of a party held at the top of Kings Highway under the big shady oak. The MAK Neighborhood Association, as usual, provided the hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, and soft drinks; neighbors contributed side dishes.
Rick Abt, MAK Social Chair, was the master of ceremonies for the party and Pat set-up a sound system for announcements and music. The Raffle included over $700 worth of prizes donated by local Decatur merchants and this year we had a free children’s raffle. Rodney organized a fashion show for us all to enjoy from his company’s pool of talented young women.
Thanks to Shannon for organizing the kids and having a parade of their decorated tricycles and bicycles. Kids and adults paraded and walked down to the north end of the Kings Highway island where our newly installed granite Centennial Marker was unveiled for the first time. Thanks to Bill Pardue for transporting the granite marker from Dalton, GA and then properly installing it on the island.
The 4th of July party requires lots of coordination from neighbors. Thanks to all who contributed time/and or equipment.

4th of July Cookout Moved to July 3rd!
Saturday, July 3rd turned-out to be a great day for our annual MAK picnic. The weather cooperated and the MAK officers had everything organized for the well-attended get-together. Thanks MAK officers for the appearance of the City of Decatur fire truck and also to volunteers who provided tents, tables, ping pong, music and PA system and other kid activities. The Raffle was fun and a successful money maker to cover the picnic expenses. Thanks to Social Chair, Rick Abt for being the "ring master" of this event.
