MAK Home - 303 Adams

The original character of 303 Adams, built in 1920, remains substantially intact.  Both interior and exterior details of Wilburn’s design, including the side servants’ entrance, are evident.  In prior decades, the home’s original shingles and clapboard siding were covered with aluminum siding, though the current owners are eager to restore Wilburn’s original exterior.

Prior owners, including a former mayor of Decatur, have restored original and period details of the house.  The home has two fireplaces, original walnut doors, including pocket doors, and the original double hung and casement windows.  Prior owners also added a 2nd bathroom on the first floor.

The home is currently undergoing a renovation.  The owners are enclosing the back porch and renovating the kitchen storage and breakfast rooms to provide for a larger, more modern kitchen.  An upstairs storage area is being renovated for an additional bathroom.

After the renovation, the home will be a 3-bedroom, 2½- bath house with approximately 2,800 square feet of living space.
